In an nutshell is this going to be difficult? No
Is all jailbreak tweaks working as of now? Some most have bugs.
Why should I Jailbreak now?
Because if you are on iOS 7.1.3 or below most apps will no longer be updateable as they will require 8.0+ and Apple is about to release 8.1.1 in the next day or two that will effectively close the exploits needed to gain access to "Root" (super admin access) in your device.
What does jailbreaking do?
Many use it to install apps they didn't pay for or share apps which is definitely doable but its not the main reason why most of us jailbreak.
Jailbreaking basically gives you full access to your device. Imagine buying a computer and not having the admin password and everytime you want to install Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop you have to call someone else to do it for you. OH WAIT that's the Apple Appstore.
Jailbreaking also allows you to install tweaks that for example, speed up animations on your phone which will make it feel less sluggish. Give you access to emulators and IT tools that are only released as homebrew programs.
Jailbreaking gives you access to other programs that apple deemed should be banned for example:
MxTube: Cache YouTube Videos
Grooveshark: Music streaming and Music downloading (you pirate!)
Movie Box: Download Movies (Seriously...)
Cartoon HD: Download and stream Movies (SUPER PIRATE)
You can also install mods to increase the number of icons in your dock, change the way your springboard looks, and more. Use gestures to open apps. Use the TouchID to access the task switcher...
It all and all gives you back full control of your device.

Step 1:
Update iTunes on the PC/MAC you are using to the latest version via apple's site:
Apple iTunes Direct Link
Download latest iTunes and reboot.

Step 2
Backup your device and do a transfer purchases.
Transfer Purchases
In iTunes 12 they moved "Transfer Purchases" to the [ File ] Menu
[ File ] -> [ Devices ] -> [ Transfer Purchases ]
Backup
This will create backup of your all your data/pictures this will NOT backup your sync'ed music as it should already be in iTunes. If you purchased the music through iTunes on your iphone/ipad it will be backed up through Transfer Purchases in the previous mini step. BACKUP TO THIS COMPUTER! DO NOT BACKUP TO ICLOUD. iCloud has a 5gb limit and all sorts of other issues.
AGAIN
DO NOT USE ICLOUD BACKUP!
If you have never jailbroken before you are pretty much ready to go. All your text messages, phone numbers, camera pictures, data for majority of your apps are now safely backed up on your computer.
If you had PREVIOUSLY jailbroken your phone and have music and videos you downloaded from things like Grooveshark and Music Box then the next step is for you.

Optional Step for people to backup music downloaded through grooveshark, mxtube and music box.
Make sure you have the latest version of ifunbox CLASSIC by checking the website:
iFunbox Download Page
Direct Download of iFunbox Classic
Open iFunbox and search for the following locations:
Music Downloaded with Music Box
Raw File System / Private / Var / Mobile / Library / (Scroll down in the list while inside the LIBRARY folder and you'll find the mp3's... Crude place to put it I know...)
Music Downloaded with Grooveshark
Raw File System / Private / Var / Mobile / Library / Grooveshark / song_cache /
Test the the mp3 files on your PC, if they don't play you need to go back to Grooveshark -> Enhancer -> Turn off Song Encryption and recopy the mp3 files
Applications downloaded through vShare or AppAddict
Raw File System / Private / Var / Mobile / Applications / (vShare/AppAddict navigate to your choice then look for it in the Documents folder of each app)
Remember DO NOT drag in iFunbox use the Copy to PC function
Music downloaded through Pandora Downloader App
Raw File System / Private / Var / Mobile / Media / Pandora /
Movies downloaded through ProTube or MxTube
Raw File System / Private / Var / Mobile / Media / ProTube/MxTube

What you aren't sure??????
YES I SAID RESTORE! DO NOT USE UPDATE!
If you have an older version it will say "Restore and Update"

STEP 4
After the update finishes. Close iTunes and Unplug your iPad/iPhone from the computer. Go through and get through the initial setup steps on the iPad/iPhone screen until you get to your springboard.
Plug your iPhone/iPad back to the usb connector to your PC/MAC and close iTunes if it opens automatically.
Go to Pangu Jailbreak Website and download Pangu Installer (current version is 1.21 as of 11-6-2014)
MAKE SURE YOU DISABLE PASSCODES COMPLETELY SOME PEOPLE I WONT NAME ANY NAMES LIKE DANTON DECIDED THAT IT WAS COOL TO ENABLE PASSCODES BEFORE RESTORE AND BEFORE JAILBREAK.
AGAIN DISABLE PASSOCDES
Open Pangu while your iPad/iPhone is connected and hit Jailbreak.
When your iPad/iPhone has completed the jailbreak, unlock it and look for cydia on the 2nd page.
Open Cydia and wait for it to finish preparing first time and let it reboot your device.

STEP 5
Close Pangu installer, connect your iPad/iPhone if it isn't already connected to your device and its time to restore your data back to your iPad/iPhone.
Select to Restore from Backup and NOT Setup as new iPad/iPhone.
If you accidentally select Setup as New device don't worry you can still go to the summary page and Select to Restore from Backup.
You are now jailbroken and your data is back. Give it time to sync back your apps. YES I KNOW YOUR JAILBROKEN APPS ARE ALL GRAYED OUT.
There's a non-user friendly way to install it all back right now. Please hold off while we figure out how to make it more user friendly.
